When the Ramayana book came out, I was eager to share it with my children. When I read the book to my two girls, I was struck by how engrossed they were in the story, and how they fascinated they were by every twist and turn. I felt humbled and privileged to be able to pass on this cultural legacy to my children - and grateful to the authors for perfectly adapting the great epic into a simple retelling for young children. They have managed the difficult feat of being authentic to the great Indian tale. It's an engaging and age-appropriate version for parents looking to introduce the Ramayana in an easy to digest manner. This is a condensed version of the epic which covers important highlights and removes any scary bits for very young kids (e.g. story of Sita's abduction, Lakshman's encounter with Shurpanaka etc.) and is a great starting point to better understand the Ramayana. We are traveling to India for Diwali and I feel this book is just perfect for her to learn about Diwali before she experiences the festival in India. These books are also a great return gifts. I bought this book for my 4 year old daughter, however, my 11 year old also enjoyed reading it as he had read the authors’ book on Diwali many years ago. I knew the basic story of Ramayana but not all the details so it was cool that I could learn something too! It’s a very well written and well organized book. It’s nice to be able to connect the dots and see how the biggest festival in India, Diwali, came into being. Kudos to the authors for making it fun and easy for kids to read, learn, and imagine! My little one (7 year old) was hooked and asked so many questions after the reading the book. She wanted to read again, and we will !! The story is simplified without the gory details, more matter of fact. Perfect for this age group. Also, the timing of the release is perfect, being close to diwali, so perfect for conversations.
